In a well balance party the Scholar takes on the role of primary healer, in that it is their job to keep the tank alive primarily. The lack of any decent AoE healing ability makes it more difficult for them to keep the rest of the group alive when they should only be taking damage by AoE abilities that cannot be avoided. A White Mage shines much brighter in that aspect. Your role in the group shouldn't be just to solely focus on the tank. You have plenty of abilities to help shield the party from damage and should be used accordingly. To address the only topic I have left out of this guide, the pets. The reason for this is because there is really only one choice to make when dealing with them. Use Selene. There are a couple of cases where Eos could be used (Pre lvl 50 content, solo healing 8 mans, you are healing with another Scholar, although with certain party make-ups double Selene might be more beneficial ) but there is no content in this game that would require you to have the extra healing power of Eos, thus adding the Skill and Spell speed buff of Selene is always more beneficial.
Here is your basic heal skill. It's used for keeping your MP efficient. Personally I don't use it until my MP is low. Scholar isn't about burst healing.
Here is your main heal skill. It's the weakest direct healing spell in the game, but the secondary effect is what makes it so beautiful. Even without the critical effect the Barrier that it puts on a person makes it best for trying to get someone from low HP back up to full safely. When you add in the critical effect you can make getting someone back to full health every easy as the barrier gets much greater than anything https://xivdb.com/?skill/129/Stoneskin could ever achieve. This will be your main healing skill as long as you are able to manage your MP well.
Here is your emergency heal skill. It's great for getting someone healed fast. The instant cast makes a great compliment to the end of a heal and the very small cooldown makes it even better for spam healing someone in need of fast healing. The important part of this is that it takes an https://xivdb.com/?skill/90125/Aetherdam-III charge.
Here is your worst heal skill. It allows you to erect a small barrier on any party member in the area following a very weak heal. The barrier is only as strong as the heal and the barrier doesn't gain the critical effect like https://xivdb.com/?skill/185/Adloquium does. This doesn't mean you shouldn't use it. When you don't have time to individually https://xivdb.com/?skill/185/Adloquium everyone who is about to take damage it's nice to prevent a little from everyone. But if you do have the time, use https://xivdb.com/?skill/185/Adloquium over https://xivdb.com/?skill/186/Succor ***NOTE*** This should not be used as a heal skill if it can be avoided.
Here is one of three of the important Cross Class skills. While not as strong as the WHM version it is still a very strong tool to help your job as a damage mitigation role.
Here is one of three of the important Cross Class skills. While not granting the magical defense that the WHM version gives the majority of the damage in the game is physical and it's better to have than not. Usually a "one and done" type spell as only death removes it and its duration is long enough for any fight.
Here is your debuffing mitigation skill. By lowering all the offensive stats of the mob it makes them deal less damage and thus mitigates how much damage they could be doing. It's best to save this for big damaging moves as it can't be spammed.
Here is your worst damage mitigating skill. By buffing the target giving any mob hitting him/her a chance to be debuffed with a damage impairing status there are plenty of times where this move won't mitigate any damage. You leave it up to chance but that in no way means it shouldn't be used. To take best effect of this move it's best to use it while the target is tanking multiple mobs (More hits = more chances for the debuff) or around 10 or so seconds before a big move is about to come, to give it time for the debuff to be applied.
Here is your most misused mitigating skills. It's misused in that it takes an https://xivdb.com/?skill/90125/Aetherdam-III charge, and those need to be managed properly in order to effectively validate using one of them on it. For the most part, if there are periods where there is enough AoE damage going on, it's worth it. If it's just to prevent one person from taking big damage from a move, it's best to save this skill and use one of your other mitigation skills for that. ***NOTE*** When used while https://xivdb.com/?skill/179/Shadow-Flare is on the ground it will remove your https://xivdb.com/?skill/179/Shadow-Flare
Here is your main mitigation skill. As it being your main form of healing you are constantly placing it's barrier and reducing the damage that your allies will be taking.
Here is your secondary MP restoration skill. Unless you know you are going to need more than 3 uses of https://xivdb.com/?skill/189/Lustrate , which should be almost never, this skill is best used when your https://xivdb.com/?skill/166/Aetherflow skill is about to be off cooldown or is off cooldown to help keep your MP has high as possible.
Here is your primary MP restoration skill. This skill is where all the skill of the scholar job comes from. Maintaining the stacks of https://xivdb.com/?skill/90125/Aetherdam-III is what separates the good, the bad, and the best scholars from the rest.
Here is your status removal skill. Most debuffs in the game can be removed, and this is scholar's way of doing it. Make sure you try and remove any and all debuffs that you can. One of the greatest ways to mitigate damage is to remove the cause of it, and most DoTs in the game can be Leached.
Here is your pet heal skill. Best to use after your pet is around 60% or lower health to prevent it from healing itself instead of others in your party.
Here is your damage mode skill. Use this skill only if you are trying add more damage to your attacks. ***NOTE*** While this skill adds more damage to your skill https://xivdb.com/?skill/167/Energy-Drain , it does not increase the amount of MP restored to you upon use of the skill.
Here is your DoT spreading skill. Costing one of your https://xivdb.com/?skill/90125/Aetherdam-III charges, it's rarely used, I don't believe SCH should be trying to DD, out of all the jobs in this game SCH does the least amount of damage.
Here is your heavy skill. The importance of this skill is that it applies a 40% heavy to the target, which is great for things like the Dreadknights in Turn 5 of Coil
Here is your fast heavy skill. Use for when you are surrounded and need to distance yourself from the mobs around you.
Gear
The following gear will have you sitting at 566 MND, 361 PIE, and 447 VIT outside of party. You will also have a good balance of the secondary stats putting you at 497 Critical, 308 Determination, and 440 Spell Speed. It is important to have a high chance of critical hits while maintaining a strong enough Determination to make those critical hits pack enough power behind them. Spell Speed is pretty garbage to stack on SCH since Selene will give us between 20-50% spell speed increase giving us as much speed as we would need on our spells.
This macro allows you to stay targeted to who you are healing and apply Energy Drain to their target. Or if you are soloing it allows you to use it on your target.
This macro allows you to stay targeted to who you are healing and apply Virus to their target. Or if you are soloing it allows you to use it on your target.
This macro allows you to stay targeted to who you are healing and apply Ruin II to their target. Or if you are soloing it allows you to use it on your target.
This macro commands your fairy to cast her heal spell on the same target you are casting your Physick on. ***NOTE*** You must be in control of your pet in order for this macro to work properly.
This macro commands your fairy to cast her heal spell on the same target you are casting your Adloquium on. ***NOTE*** You must be in control of your pet in order for this macro to work properly.
This macro is a one button way to gain control of your pet. ***NOTE*** You must be targeting a mob, targeting someone who is targeting a mob, or have a mob focus targeted in order for this to work. ALSO this will not work if nothing is targeted.
